Summer Camping Recipes
By: Hope Scotting
Summer is a time for camping and spending time outdoors. When being outside making breakfast, dinner, and supper can be a task, finding recipes that make meal prep a little easier can make your time spent outside more enjoyable. By wrapping dishes in foil and placing them over a fire, placing items in the waffle maker, or using preparing meals before leaving home you can have a fun, food filled summer. Below are a few recipes and recommendations.

Breakfast:

Cinnamon roll waffle
Buy a can of pre-packaged cinnamon rolls, simply place the rolls in a greased waffle iron until the cinnamon rolls begin to crisp. Remove the rolls and drizzle icing over top and allow to slightly cool before eating.

Omelet in a bag
Simply place an egg or two and your desired seasoning and topping in a Ziploc bag. Scramble the eggs by simply shaking the bag. Place the bag in a pot of water that has begun to boil over the fire. Allow the egg to cook in the water for 5 to 7 minutes. Remove the egg and serve.
Cereal
Cereal is always a simple, convenient breakfast option for lazy morning.

Dinner and supper:

Walking Tacos
Prepare and cook hamburger. Season with taco seasoning and place in a Ziploc bag. Freeze in advance before placing in a cooler. The meat will begin to unfreeze while in the cooler. When ready to serve simply place the meat over a flame in a Dutch oven and heat. Serve with small bags of chips, sour cream, taco sauce, tomatoes, and other taco toppings.
Camping Quesadillas:
By simply wrapping a tortilla in foil it can be cooked while camping.

Crockpot meals:
Meals can also be prepared in advance and placed in a crockpot. Simply store the pot in the cooler until the morning you are ready to serve. Plug in the crockpot and allow to cook for the designated time.

Hotdogs and Hamburgers
Hotdogs and hamburgers are always a simple option. Place over the fire and cook until complete.
Snacks:
Always prepare camping snacks before going out. Allow them to be available in the cooler or someplace else to be able to be accessible when necessary.
Oatmeal snack bites
Fruit
Slicing fruit or having oranges, apples, or bananas is am easy snack.

Peanut Butter, Banana Roll-ups
