Top 5 Disney Movies

I don't know about you but for me Disney was a big part of growing up. Some of the Disney movies are still cherished today. But what are the top Disney movies? Here is a list of the top 5 top rated Disney movies.

At 5 we have Finding Nemo. Finding Nemo came out in 2003. The movie is rated at 88.15. You go on a journey when a dad loses his son Nemo and goes on a crazy adventure, along with a Dory, a fish with short term memory the duo goes looking for Nemo and encounters things that they never thought they would encounter. Number 4 we have The Little Mermaid. This Disney Princess movie came out in 1989 and is rated at 88.17. Ariel is one of many daughters of Poseidon. But being an underwater princess isn't what Ariel wants. Ariel is fascinated with everything that is on land. Especially a prince that she saved. When she goes to Ursula she ends up losing her voice and can't sing. Throughout the movie she falls deeper and deeper in love with the prince. Now, the top 3. At number 3 we have Beauty and The Beast. This Princess Movie (rated 89.44, debuted in 1991) teaches kids to not judge a book by its cover. When a handsome man is turned into a beast for turning down an ugly beggar, Belle stumbles upon his castle and she begins to fall in love with him. Now at 2 we have Aladdin it came out in 1992 it is rated 89.82. Aladdin is another Disney princess movie that is a peasant finds a genie in a bottle and tries to win the heart of Princess Jasmine but along the way they run into trouble along way. Now last but not least we have our number 1. At number 1 we have The Lion King. With its rating of 91.2 this movie is defiantly a classic. When a young lion cub loses his father he thinks it is his fault and goes into hiding he ends up meeting a meerkat and warthog. By the time he is older the Safari kingdom is taken over by his evil uncle. This 1994 movie is a classic that everyone enjoys.

There you have it. The top 5. There are plenty more movies, but those were just the highest ranked. What is your favorite Disney movie?

Why Should High Schoolers Know How to Cook? By Genna Catrett

Why is it better to know how to cook before your high school career is over? When you know how to cook it makes you look more mature and independent. Knowing how to cook is an essential life skill. If you know how to cook before college you will likely have a better college experience and save money. You will save money by not going out to eat. Food prepared by yourself always is better than take out. Besides you don’t want to burn your house down trying to cook Ramen Noodles.

Prom Tips

In less than a month prom is going to be happening. Mark your calendars for Saturday April 9th. Within the rush of finding the dress, shoes, hair appointment, nail appointment, altering your dress, finding a date, and just having the night planned it can get overwhelming. So here are some prom tips to get you ready.

Girls, finding "the dress" is hard. Especially if you go to places around here. You are bound to find someone who has the same dress as you. But talk to your classmates and see what they are wearing. If you are getting your nails done schedule the appointment about a month away, around prom seasons most places get booked pretty quickly, same goes for your hair. If you get a dress and you don't know what you should do for your hair here are some tips. If your dress is strapless have your hair all down, if you have a dress where there is one strap over the shoulder have your hair to the other side. If your dress goes up to your neck have your hair all up. If you have a dress with straps have your hair half up and half down.  If you want your make up professionally done go to place where you have gone before or someone you know has gone there before and are happy with their results. Talk to your date so you can get the right color tie.

Prom can be stressful but if you take the right steps and keep your cool you will be fine.

Tatu Rebel Rally

Most of you have heard of Tatu. Tatu stands for Teens Against Tobacco Use. March 16th 2016 on a Wednesday, the Montrose School District held the event Tatu Rebel Rally. There was 15 volunteers, to help work at the Rebel Rally. We all did an amazing job working the little kids. I hope that everybody that came to the Tatu Rebel Rally got the message, that tobacco is terrible for you, and I hope they never start with it. On March 16th was also National Kick Butts Day. If you don’t know what that is it’s the day where young teens and adults get together and show the world how bad cigarettes are. We didn’t plan the Tatu Rebel Rally on the same day as National Kick Butts Day on purpose, but knowing that it was planned for that day and that my Tatu team could do something for that day. It was a great opportunity to get to sign up and volunteer for the Rally. I really recommend that as the years pass the younger kids should sign up and help people, from starting the bad habit. If you want to see a little sneak peak of what happened that day go and look on KDLT News.

Catfish: The Truth Behind the Screen

If you watch T.V. or watch MTV you have probably have watched or heard of the show "Catfish." If you haven't seen or heard of it then as of right now you are probably completely confused. Catfish is a show in where people meet someone online and want to meet them in person. When they try to figure something out before the plans always fail. Two guys come in and do some private research to track the mystery lover. While the person is all too excited to meet the face to the profile picture, 9 times out of 10 they become heartbroken, mad, or in utter disbelief. I mean who could blame them? Falling in love with a person who they think could be "the one?" Don't get me wrong, it does sound a little crazy, but for some people it is the real deal.

By now you are probably thinking, "Well who would do that? Fall in love with a person they have never even met." To be honest as of September 18th, 2015, 49,250,000 people have tried online dating. Now this is mainly adults using eHarmony or Match.com. Now that was just adults. What about teenagers? Well, with today's media there is a lot of ways that teens can meet someone. There is Facebook (kind of old school I know), Instagram, Twitter, Kik, and a newer app called Tinder. Within these apps you can meet random people and get to know them. But are they really who they say they are? Statics say that 10% of people who sign up are sex offenders, again, this is only for online dating sites. But this doesn't mean you are off the hook. On a personal encounter there was a friend of mine who was in a group chat with friends and other people, a few months go by and turns out there was a pedophile in that group chat. You are never safe.

So now you are reading this and are probably wondering how to know if you are a victim of a fake online love, well here are some ways to find out. First off if they seem too good to be true, more than likely it is. Now this may not be entirely true, but keep an eye out for these next signs. Second, if you meet someone online and they can relate to just about anyone then more than likely they are made up, you can't relate to everyone. Also, if the person you are talking to starts to get serious after just meeting you, you are more than likely involved in the scam, but you will begin to be blinded by love before you know it due to their sweet talk. Fourth thing, this one is probably the most obvious, if they can't video chat with you because "things came up" or that they can't get their camera to work then more than likely, you guessed it, you are being catfished. Number five on the list is if they are mainly traveling along the Middle-East or Africa for work or something then you should probably distance yourself. Next, if they begin to ask you for money and ask you to send it to someone else, then this is a catfish, so don't start falling for their sob story about their pets or family. If they find you out of the blue and you have no idea who they are, just ignore them immediately. If there is no pictures of their friends and people that seem like they don't know them, he is probably a catfish. Last but certainly not least, if they look like they should be a model, more than likely their pictures are just off of the internet.

There you have it. Don't forget to always be careful and cautious when you meet someone you don't know online, you never know who they really are. If you follow these signs and don't fall head over heels in love you should be okay. Warn others about the risks if they are talking to an online stranger. You never know who it could be.

Superman vs. Batman: Debatable By Kylie Heumiller

Superman and Batman have been around for years, kicking crimes butt and protecting their cities. Although they’re made up characters for comic books, they’ve been gaining fans more and more as rumors of a movie showing them both started floating about. I’ve taken a survey throughout the high school just to see what our favorite is; Superman or Batman. Superman got the most votes; 38% and batman got the second most; 36%. Some people have chosen neither superhero, leaving that at 25%.

How it is Transitioning between grades. By Jeanie

When you are transitioning between grades it feels good to know you have completed a year. At the beginning of each year it is a little scary because you don’t know how it will be until you get used to it, and get to know your teachers expectations. When you know how everything is and how it goes in the next year everything will become a whole lot easier.  Just listen to your teachers because if you do follow the rules and don’t argue or ignore the teachers expectations you will get far in high school. Although if you don’t listen or follow your teachers expectations you will not get far at all in high school, or life for that matter. Your teachers are the ones helping you succeed, however they cannot make you succeed because you have to do that on your own. The teachers are there to give you a little push if you need it. You have to try first in order to get that push from the teachers. If you listen to you teachers like it says in this whole paragraph you will not have any problem transitioning between grades.

Head Lice Prevention

This year there have been many accounts of head lice. Head lice is easy to prevent. There are many different ways to prevent yourself and others of getting head lice.
Ways to prevent head lice is easy, first is don't share hairbrushes or hats. Girls, it may seem like a nice gesture to give your friend your hairbrush but it is one of the most common way to spread head lice. Even if you don't have they may not have it and could spread. Also giving away hair ties, now once again, it’s a simple nice gesture but don't give someone a used hair tie, or if you give someone a hair tie make sure you don't get it back. Hugging is also a way of getting head lice. When people go to hug one another (especially little kids) you put your heads together and head lice can jump and fly. In general, just avoid sharing any clothing item and hair products. Now just those won't always help there are some products that you can use to prevent the dreaded head lice. Some of these products include Lice Shield, Ladibugs (They usually sell them in kits of 3 steps), and Paul Mitchell Tea Tree Shampoo and Conditioner, Tea Tree Oils really help protect your head from head lice, just buy some tea tree oil and put it into your shampoo and conditioners, also put hairspray and gel in your hair too.
So you are taking these precautions but yet you wonder "what are the signs of head lice?" Well, some of the signs of head lice are constant itching on the head, a feeling that there is something in your hair that is moving around. You may begin to get red bumps on your skin. Also not irritability and trouble sleeping at night.
So you took all of these precautions and yet you still end up with head lice. There are many ways to take care of it. First you should go to the doctor. Usually they will prescribe you with lotions or special shampoos that will help get rid of the lice. Afterward you should comb out the nits (newly hatched lice). It will take about 7-10 days to get rid of any newly hatched nits.
So there you go. Always be careful when sharing hair items and don't be afraid to take the extra mile when preventing head lice in your school and in your house.

How to Survive High School

If you follow this guideline you will have a great high school experience. This is not from any specific person but in the experiences that I’ve had and some friends I have asked.
1
1.Respect Upperclassman!!! If you respect upperclassman now, you have a better chance of getting respect when you’re older. If you are in line for lunch anyone above your grade can cut you. When you are older you can do it to the people that are in the lower grades.
  2. Get Your Homework Done. Getting your homework done on time is important for your grades. The teachers don’t want to get behind on grading as much as you don’t want a bad grade.
  3. Be responsible. If you didn’t get your homework done or missed class, do the work. You have to go talk to the teacher, it’s not their job to track you down and give you the assignment.

  4. Don’t Argue. It’s not going to get you anywhere but in more trouble.  Arguing with teachers is like arguing with someone that you can never win against. They are in charge and you have to listen to them. That’s just how it is.

Montrose history: Trey and Kylie

Montrose use to have five general stores, two hardware stores, one millinery store, one harness shop, one meat market, three warehouses, one hotel, one lumber yard, two livery stable, two land loan offices, one flower mill, and one newspaper office. Montrose’s population was 200. Montrose now has one general store, one gas station, and one diner. Montrose’s population is 471. Montrose has grown in population but has shrunk in small town businesses. Seeing that this many businesses use to be here may be a surprise, but it doesn’t seem like it was a bad thing! We all know The Rock used to be a bank, and then another place to eat. Who knows, maybe next it can be a movie theater!

Q: How much homework do you get everyday?

A: It all depends on your class, some classes you don’t have any homework, others you get homework almost everyday.

A Teacher's Helping Hand

Here at Montrose School we have amazing teachers. They have had many achievements throughout the years.  I asked teachers a few questions and here are some of their responses. What are some ways for students to study? Teachers would like students to review notes and activities about what we did in class to understand how it relates to what we were learning. Instead of trying to memorize everything right before the test and then forgetting it after. Overall goals for this semester is for students to actually understand and comprehend what they are learning and not just to pass a test or receive a good grade.
